So what I have worked out is that I will disassemble the Cooling and Processing unit from the rest of the G5 tower thusly. Apparently the prohibition extends even to O-rings and coolant and thermal grease, which the article says would be required for this repair. A guy at Mike's Tech Shop willingly explained this, and an intake guy at Tekserve admitted it when I pressed him. The reason is that, as Authorized Apple Service Providers, their privilege of ordering parts from Apple is accompanied by a prohibition from ordering parts from anybody other than Apple. Unfortunately neither Tekserve or Mike's Tech Shop will touch it. ![]() ![]() There is a 2009 article explaining how to fix this problem. As explained in this post, my 2005 G5 Quad tower won't stay up when booted, apparently because of a problem that has developed recently with its liquid cooling.
